The Recovery Project Physical Therapist Earns Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Certification

Anthony Gioannini completes 1,000 hours of instruction and practical application

Macomb Twp.-based The Recovery Project, a leading provider of physical therapy to people with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and other neurological disorders, announced today that Anthony Gioannini, PT, DPT, OMPT, ATC, has earned the orthopedic manual physical therapy (OMPT) certification from Oakland University. The Recovery Project co-CEO and lead physical therapist Polly Swingle made the announcement.

To achieve the OMPT certification, Gioannini participated in a two-year graduate program that involved more than 1,000 hours of coursework and practical application. The program trains clinicians on treating problems with the musculoskeletal system, spanning from low back and neck pain to joints of the body, with evidence-based manual techniques like massage, mobilization and manipulation. The therapy is designed not only to treat patients’ visible deficits, but also less noticeable impairments that could be causing the issues.

“The Recovery Project is dedicated to constantly learning and strengthening our practice through continued education and familiarity with the latest evidence-based research theories and techniques,” said Swingle. “Gioannini is a leading physical therapist in the region, and this rigorous certification adds to his wealth of knowledge and experience in the field.”
