Stevenson grad is Michigan's "Mr. Baseball"

A 2014 Stevenson High School athlete has been named "Mr. Baseball" by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Zack McGuire earned the top honor at a banquet prior to the 33rd annual MHSBCA East-West All-Star Classic, which was played at Comerica Park on July 10.

McGuire was a force both on the mound and at the plate for Stevenson this past spring. Offensively, he hit .443 with 18 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 52 RBIs. On the mound, the righty had a perfect 8-0 record with a miniscule 1.33 ERA as the team's No. 1 starter.

In helping lead Stevenson to the Macomb Area Conference Red Division championship and a district title, McGuire was named MLive's Detroit Player of the Year. In addition to taking part in the MHSBCA All-Star Game, he was also voted to the MHSBCA Dream Team as an outfielder.

He plans to continue his baseball career at Michigan State University.
