Summer fun won't include slides for Roberts Elementary students

Roberts Elementary students are turning out in large numbers to show how they plan to avoid slides this summer.

Not the ones on the playground, but rather the slide that may occur in learning during the summer break. Nearly 80 students kicked off the eight-week Roberts Camp Prevent Summer Slide program.

Teachers, parents and students are all volunteering to meet weekly for two hours to fill the summer with reading, math, writing and science.

Students take home books they can keep or bring back during future sessions to exchange with their peers.

At the first session, students worked through four stations involving computer-based activities, math, summer reading and writing.
