Three UCS schools hold golden anniversary celebrations

Eisenhower, Oakbrook and Havel hold 50th celebrations

Three Utica Community Schools buildings will be opening their doors to celebrate their 50th birthdays.

Eisenhower High School, Oakbrook Elementary and Havel Elementary are inviting former staff and students back for special events in October.

“We are proud of our legacy in Utica Community Schools and look forward to honoring those who built our school district,” Superintendent of Schools Robert Monroe said. “We want to give all former students and staff the opportunity to come back, reminisce with friends, walk familiar halls and reconnect with their roots.”

The following 50th celebrations will be held:

  • Eisenhower High School – The school, which was dedicated by former president Richard Nixon, will host its 50th celebration on October 1 from 10 a.m. to noon, 6500 25 Mile Road in Shelby Township. Special displays of Eisenhower through the decades will be featured throughout the building. The morning will begin with a short program honoring the school’s history in the commons beginning at 10 a.m.
  • Oakbrook Elementary will hold its celebration on October 6 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the school, 12060 Greenway, Sterling Heights, MI 48312. The program will begin outside with a ceremony featuring the planting of an Oak tree on school grounds.
  • Havel Elementary will celebrate 50 on October 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the school, 41855 Schoenherr, Sterling Heights, MI 48313

The program begins in the school cafeteria with a program honoring students and staff from 1972.
