UCS grad earns top state architect honor

UCS grad earns top state architect honor for his work designing health care facilities

A 2003 Utica Community Schools graduate has earned a top state honor for his work in designing health care facilities.

Matthew Guinta, who attended Eisenhower High School, was honored with the Associate Member of the Year Award from the American Institute Michigan.Β Since leaving Eisenhower, Guinta has been a driving force in pursuing best practices and innovative solutions in simulation and healing spaces for health care facilities.

Guinta’s work has taken him across the country to plan health facilities with specialized teams. He has collaborated on a variety of projects, including: renovations of Advocate Trinity Hospital – Intensive Care Unit in Chicago, Illinois, an emergency department replacement at the War Memorial Hospital, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the consolidation of existing radiology treatment at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a simulation center/multi-use training facility for the University’s School of Nursing and local healthcare providers at the Lake Superior State University, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Most recently, Guinta has been involved with an overhaul renovation design of the School of Nursing at California State University in San Marcos, California and projects at the Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, including the Tyner Center for Cardiovascular Interventions and the Surgical Learning Center Expansion.

Guinta is also committed to the profession through his work with NCARB and the AIA. He is currently the State Coordinator of NCARB’s Intern Development Program in Michigan and is the former AIA Detroit Emerging Professionals Committee chair. He currently serves on the AIA Michigan Center for Emerging Professional Resources as the Architectural Registration Exam chair and volunteers his time giving IDP webinars and presentations to schools across the state.

Guinta is also a member of the Technology and Standards Committee for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSiH). A graduate of University of Detroit Mercy, he is a designer/planner with Harley Ellis Devereaux in Southfield.
