UCS Means Success: Sharon D'Andreta-Waller UCS Parent Small Business Owner

Sharon D'Andreta-Waller, Utica Community Schools Parent and Small Business Owner

My story in Utica Community Schools began 17 years ago when we moved here to raise our family. My daughter is a currently a junior at Utica Academy for International Studies and my son is a freshman at Henry Ford II High school and Utica Center for Science and Industry.

I like that Utica Community Schools is not a one size fits all district. Whatever your child wants to learn and however they want to learn it, there is something for them here. My students are able to pursue their interests, are challenged academically and have fun and enjoy the path they are taking in school.

I also see the benefits of the district as a small business owner in the area. My company manufactures protective covers for robots that paint cars, and we want the best employees. When I have a prospective employee that is planning to relocate for their job, I simply tell them we are part of Utica Community Schools. It is an incentive for them to work with me because parents know our reputation for academic excellence. Utica Community Schools attracts good employees for my business.

I am proud to be part of Utica Community Schools. When you have a district that embraces the things that are important to you as a parent, it makes our job that much easier. The district values learning, and so do the parents. UCS values challenging its students, and so do the parents. Our schools value creating an environment where students can enjoy learning, and so do our parents. We want the same things for all of our kids.
