The race is on for these Blue Devils (candgnews.com) — Lawrence Tech students in Southfield have unveiled a fleet of student-built race cars, aircraft, and robots that will compete in national engineering competitions this spring and summer. From a heavy-lift RC plane to electric and gas formula cars and an autonomous ground vehicle, the Blue Devil Motorsports teams are showcasing hands-on engineering that puts Southfield’s hometown university on the national stage. 
2. Southfield-based brass band wins national title, invited to world championship (candgnews.com) — A Southfield-based ensemble, the Five Lakes Silver Band, just captured the 2026 North American Brass Band Championship and will represent North America at July’s World Music Contest in the Netherlands. The 30-member group, celebrating its 20th anniversary, earned one of the event’s highest-ever scores and is now preparing intensely for the international stage.
3. Trial scheduled for woman and son accused of murdering his former teenage girlfriend (theoaklandpress.com) — A homicide case with a key crime scene in Southfield is moving toward a June 8 double-jury trial for a mother and son accused in the death of 17-year-old London Thomas. Investigators say her body was found in a container inside an SUV on Millard Street in Southfield after a multi-agency search.
4. Jury seated in trial against man accused of killing Melvindale police officer (clickondetroit.com) — A Southfield man is now on trial, with a jury seated, in connection with the 2024 shooting death of a Melvindale police officer during a foot chase. Prosecutors outline multiple felony charges, including murder of a police officer and several weapons and drug counts, after a judge previously ruled him competent to stand trial.
