• Man sentenced for animal torture (legalnews.com) — A St. Clair Shores man has been sentenced to 30 days in Macomb County Jail and 18 months of probation for violently abusing his dog, Steel. Prosecutors say he is now barred from owning or being around animals and must wear an alcohol tether. The dog survived without permanent injuries and has since been safely re-homed.
   

• Chinese National Sentenced for Operating Illicit Massage Parlors in Metro Detroit (michigan.gov subscription) — A human trafficking ringleader has been sentenced to up to 20 years after operating 111 Healing Studio, an illicit massage parlor in St. Clair Shores, and another in Sterling Heights. Michigan's attorney general says the case was among the state's largest forced commercial sex operations. Residents are also reminded that a confidential national hotline is available for anyone who suspects trafficking locally.
