Training Therapy Dogs

So last night was week five of my class which trains dogs to be therapy dogs. Therapy dogs are peoples' pets who are trained at a very high obedience level so they can visit nursing homes, hospitals, schools, etc. with their owners.  Many are doing reading programs at local libraries. The kids read to the therapy dog. I am proud to be a therapy dog evaluator and own a therapy dog. Buddy and I visit local nursing homes and are now getting involved with home visits along with visiting nurses.

The class I teach is truly rewarding. We have five dogs and owners who next Monday will be taking their therapy dog test. We have put in a lot of work and the dogs seem ready to pass.  in St. Clair Shores allows us to use their training room in the evening after all the guests are put to bed and everything is locked up so we don't disturb their overnight dogs. It is so nice because their training room has a separate entrance and is completely secure. We don't even see or hear any of the overnight dogs and they don't see and hear us.  

Lil Dogs has been a great partner in this very important program which brings so many people joy.
