Court Date Set for Man Charged with Pointing Gun at Police

A court date for a 40-year-old man who was shot by police after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at officers responding to a 911 call.

A 40-year-old man who at St. Clair Shores police Aug. 21, and fired a shot as officers arrived, is scheduled to have a pre-exam hearing in in September.

Jeffery Mugler was on the balcony of an apartment near Little Mack and 10 Mile roads and allegedly fired a shot as officers arrived. He then allegedly pointed his shotgun at police who were responding to a 911 call.

After he did not comply with officer's commands to drop his weapon, an officer fired a shot that struck him in the chest/shoulder area, according to police.

Mugler is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of discharging a weapon in or at an occupied building and felony firearm charges. He will have a pre-exam conference on Sept. 4.

He is being held without bond, and is under police guard at St. John's Hospital. The incident is under investigation.

The officer, whose name has not yet being released, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
