Lakeview Catcher Pitches In

Lakeview senior Ali Lince answers coach's call to pitch this season and is fabulous on the mound.

Ali Lince has a 1.39 earned run average, a 1.000 fielding percentage and 75 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched with only one loss on the mound this season.

Wanna hear the coolest part though?

She's a catcher.

Well, primarily a catcher. The senior has aspirations of playing college softball behind the plate, but was asked to pitch this year for the Huskies by varsity coach Becky Quinn.

"Ali has been a phenomenal asset to the team this year," said Quinn. "She has stepped into a very tough role this year as our pitcher, even though she is primarily a catcher. She is looking to play in college as a catcher, so coming in to pitch this year has been a challenge. She has pitched in the past, but has always been just a backup. She has shown tremendous courage and dedication to the team to fill that position to better the team."

And, Lince can hit.

Not only is she leading the team defensively, she's also a force at the plate. Lince is hitting a .553 with a .947 slugging percentage. She has nine doubles, a triple and two home runs, posting nine runs batted in in only 12 contests.

Ali went 2-0 in the STARS tournament with wins against Durant and All-State Divvision I honorable mention, Flint Kearsley. She also had the solo home run which helped to win the 1-0 game.

"The season is going very well," said Lince. "A lot of the girls are stepping up big time this year. Our goals are to win league and district championships and we are working very hard to attain that."
