Man Charged In Deadly Macomb Co. Crash, Police Chase: Prosecutor
Police said the suspect reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour before striking two cars at a Macomb County intersection.
WARREN, MI — A Detroit man has been charged in connection with a deadly crash while fleeing officers in Macomb County last weekend, prosecutors said.
The crash happened at 9:30 p.m. Saturday on South Van Dyke Avenue and 9 Mile Road in Warren, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said 71-year-old Wendy Drew was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital where she died.

Anthony Eugene-Douglas Grier, Jr., 33, was charged with second-degree murder, police officer-fleeing-first-degree and police officer-assaulting/resisting/obstructing. He was placed in jail and denied bond. His next court date is scheduled for June 5.
Officers first spotted Grier driving a Chrysler 300 roughly 70 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone on Van Dyke in Warren, prosecutors said.

Officers tried to stop the car with their lights and sirens activated, but Grier sped away, prosecutors said.
At one point, prosecutors said Grier drove on the sidewalk, in the middle turn lane, sped through multiple red lights and reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour in a 35 and 40-mile-per-hour speed zone, prosecutors said.
Grier eventually struck a car that was being driven by Drew the intersection of South Van Dyke and 9 Mile, prosecutors said.
Drew was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital where she died, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said Grier also struck a second car at the intersection. That person was not injured in the crash, prosecutors said.
After the crashes, prosecutors said Grier was seen running away from the scene. Officers eventually caught him and arrested him in connection with the incidents.
"This matter is a prime example of the peril that results from a driver failing to stop for police. It is a terrible tragedy that an innocent woman was killed. The Warren Police Department can be commended for their efforts to protect the public and prevent what could have been an even greater loss of life," Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said. "The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office will prosecute the defendant to the fullest extent of the law."
