St. Clair Shores Man Charged After Threatening To Shoot Up School: Prosecutor
A 20-year-old St. Clair Shores man is facing charges after threatening to shoot up a school, according to Macomb County prosecutors.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — A 20-year-old St. Clair Shores man is facing charges after threatening to shoot up a school, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.
Joel Edwards, 20, was charged with making an intentional threat to commit violence against a school, using a computer to commit a crime and felony firearm.
He remains in jail with a $5 million bond. His next court date is scheduled for March 2. If convicted on all three counts against him, Edwards faces up to 22 years in prison.

Investigators said Edwards posted TikTok videos expressing a desire to carry out a mass shooting at a school. They reached out to Michigan State Police, who then turned to St. Clair Shores police.
On Sept. 13, 2025, St. Clair Shores Police conducted a cyberthreat investigation and welfare check on Edwards. They found Edwards was in possession of weapons and determined that he was planning to attack a school.

Prosecutors did not release any further details about the attack.
"This is a deeply distressing case, and today’s bind-over reflects the seriousness of the allegations and the need to address them through the justice system," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said. "Any credible threat to our schools or public spaces must be taken with the utmost gravity, because the potential consequences are unthinkable. I urge community members to remain vigilant and to report concerning behavior or information promptly so that intervention can occur before harm is done."
