Detroit Tigers Help Open the Lac Saint Clair Baseball Season in St. Clair Shores

Members of the Detroit Tigers coaching staff will give young ball players in the Lac Saint Clair Little League some tips on how to play the game Saturday just hours before the start of the season.

"(The Tigers) contacted us and asked if we would like to host a clinic for the kids," said Matt Crippen, president of the 800-player Lac Saint Clair Little League. "I responded we would love to host the clinic."

The clinic at  starts a full day of baseball and softball opening day activities games for the Lac Saint Clair Little League.

Coaches including Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon, pitching coach Jeff Jones, bullpen catcher Bruce Pickens, and strength and conditioning coach Javair Gillett will lead baseball and softball players in a series of hitting, catching, throwing and stretching drills.

The clinic is for children between 9- and 16-years-old, and who are on a Lac Saint Clair Little League. Those who participate are asked to wear their uniforms and bring their bats and gloves.

Children will also have the opportunity to register for the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, and Run Competition. The local event, which is open to boys and girls from age 7-14, will be held Sunday. Winners in each age group will advance to a regional competition and Comerica Park.
