One alleged attempt occurred at Clinton River Park North, where relatives and a Citizen on Patrol member intervened. Families of the girls remain frustrated by delays as an October trial date stands.

Utica clubs Cousino; L'Anse Creuse North rebounds to shut down Romeo (macombdaily.com) ā Sterling Heights athletes had a big day, with the Stallions baseball team routing Eastpointe 26-0 behind a no-hitter and Stevenson golfers topping Cousino at Maple Lane Golf Course in the city. The roundup also highlights strong performances by nearby Utica, LāAnse Creuse North, Eisenhower, and other Macomb County schools across softball, soccer, volleyball, golf, and tennis.

3. Six business, retiring MCC boss honored at Macomb Business Awards (macombdaily.com) ā A Sterling Heights-based nonprofit, Dutton Farm, was recognized as Nonprofit of the Year at the Macomb Business Awards for its work supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The group has expanded into Macomb County, partnering with local businesses to provide social, recreational, and workforce-development opportunities. Several other Macomb County employers and institutions were also honored for workplace culture, manufacturing, placemaking, and talent development.

4. Suspect arrested for antisemitic vandalism at Oak Park synagogue (audacy.com) ā Sterling Heights residents should know that two out-of-state men were recently arrested after allegedly spray-painting swastikas and other hateful messages on a residential fence in the city. In a related concern for regional safety, Oak Park police also arrested a suspect accused of antisemitic graffiti at Congregation Beth Shalom, prompting increased patrols near religious sites and schools.

5. Michigan Treasury sends out wrong notices, scaring some tax filers (freep.com subscription) ā Sterling Heights taxpayers may be among many Michiganders who received alarming but erroneous āNotice of Adjustmentā letters from the state Treasury suggesting they owed more or would get smaller refunds. Local CPA Robert Wexler and other accountants say a statewide system glitch failed to credit some estimated payments, and officials have paused new notices while working on a fix.
