Summer Smoothies
Smoothies make meeting 5-a-day fruit and veggie servings easy as pie (and taste just as good too).
Smoothies are AMAZING snacks, or even meals if you ad protein powder, for everyone. Plus, if you mix it right you can get your kids (and your husband!) to eat their vegetables without them knowing it. And for dessert? Don't even get me started on the "milkshake" recipe below. Get your chocolate fix without all the calories and added sugar. The ingredients sound a little weird and maybe even off-putting, but I wouldn't post it if it wasn't good.
Throw the ingredients in a blender, pour into a to-go cup, get in the car and go. What's easier than that?

Kale, Oat, and Blueberry Smoothie Recipe
Serves 2

5 leaves kale, stems removed, leaves torn (about 1 packed cup)
1 cup blueberries
¼ cup Greek yogurt
½ cup whole milk
1/3 cup oats
2 tablespoons honey (ideally raw)
8-10 ice cubes
Optional: ¼ cup ground flaxseed meal, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, pinch of salt
Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and frothy, about 3 to 4 minutes. (Blend extra long with this smoothie recipe to make sure to puree the kale leaves and oats.)
(I have to leave out the yogurt, but using Almond Milk was still absolutely delicious!)
HEALTHY CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE RECIPE
Ingredients:
• 2 frozen bananas
• 1/2 – 1 cup almond milk
• 2 heaping Tbs Chocolate Powder
• 2 squirts Vanilla Stevia
Simply add everything together in a blender and blend until smooth. Voila! The perfect snack that takes literally 5 mins to make and helps you stay on track with your weight loss!
VEGAN FIVE-A-DAY SMOOTHIE RECIPE
Ingredients:
1/4 cucumber
6 or 7 strawberries
1 apple
1 kiwi
1 pear
juice 1 lime
juice 1/2 orange
splash water or two ice cubes
1 tsp agave nectar
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
small pinch ground cinnamon
15 drops echinacea (optional and only if you feel you need a boost to your immune system)
Green Smoothie Recipe
Serves 1-2
Ingredients:
½ banana
½ mango
½ avocado
3 dates, chopped (optional)
1/3 cup almond milk
3 tbsp plain yogurt
2 big stalks of kale, rinsed and de-ribbed
A few (3-5) healthy shakes of cinnamon
Ice, optional
Combine all the ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth and frothy, about 1-2 minutes.
AVOCADO-BANANA SMOOTHIE RECIPE
FROM NEW AMERICAN TABLE
4 SERVINGS
Ingredients:
1 avocado, halved, pitted, and peeled
½ cup fresh orange juice, from 1 medium orange
2 bananas
¼ cup plain yogurt
2 teaspoons sugar
1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
Juice of 1 lime
½ teaspoon salt
1. Combine the avocado, orange juice, bananas, yogurt and sugar in a blender and puree until smooth. Add the ginger and blend until well combined, then mix in the lime juice and salt. Divide the puree among four glasses and serve immediately.
Green Smoothie II
• 1-2 bananas
• frozen peaches
• frozen mango
• a couple handfuls of spinach
• water
• ice (if desired)
Add enough water to blend and enjoy, that’s it! Forget the dehydrating morning latte and get the glow with a Green Smoothie instead.
