AAA Michigan is partnering with Detroit Medical Center Children’s Hospital of Michigan to conduct the second annual free child safety seat check for the public from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at AAA Headquarters parking lot, located at One Auto Club Drive in Dearborn.
The safety seat check is open to the public – no need for pre-registration. Certified child passenger safety technicians from the Kohl’s Injury Prevention Program will be on hand to inspect seats for proper installation, provide information to parents on how to select the appropriate seats and ensure that currently installed seats have not been recalled.
Parents will bring children and their child safety seats in their vehicles. New this year – unusable child safety seats will be prepared for recycling. An average of six children are killed -- and nearly 800 injured -- each day in traffic crashes. Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of children in the U.S. Estimates are that these deaths and injuries could be reduced by half if every child passenger was properly restrained in vehicles.
