Grosse Ile Roads: No Relief in Sight

During the Grosse Ile Township DPS Commission Meeting of Tuesday, October 8, 2013 Chair William Costick strongly suggested reconsideration of a Plan for long term road and water main improvements that are required "all over the Township".

Grosse Ile residents expecting Township roads to be vastly improved in the near future may have to wait another ten years, per open discussion at the DPS Commission Meeting of Tuesday, October 8.

In his remarks to the Commission, Chair William Costick strongly suggested "reconsideration of a Plan for long term road and water main improvements...”

There are road improvements required "all over the Township", said Costick.

"We need to have a Plan" to go to the Township Board and say, "here's our Vision of where we want to go with things.”

While Church Road was again mentioned as severely deteriorating, major projects along 4-5 miles of Meridian Road and 2-1/2 miles of East River north of Grosse Ile Parkway were also cited as necessities – and ageing water main should be replaced there prior to reconstructing the roads.

Those aggregate costs were projected to be in the $6,000,000 range for water main replacement.

While most of the roads in dire need of repair are Wayne County roads, the consensus was that Grosse Ile Township is not a high-priority envelope for attention by the County.
