On Friday, the Trenton High senior spent the day touring the U of M campus and got a peek at the advanced biomedical equipment she can't wait to get her hands on.

"I've learned a lot from touring the campus today," said Bates.  "Everyone knows what a great school it is, but until you go and actually see the machines and advanced technology they have there, you really can't imagine."

Bates will be representing Trenton High School as part of the Channel 7 "Brightest & Best" program in May.

At Trenton High, Kalli currently serves as the National Honor Society President, Spanish Honors Society Club President (two years), is a member of the Interact Club (four years), Math Club member (three years), participates in Quiz Bowl, Spanish Club and is a  Student Council member.

If all that isn't enough, Bates is an outfielder for the Trenton varsity softball team and currently plays AAA hockey for Victory Honda.

She plans to play club hockey for University of Michigan.

Key to Success:  "I think the key to my success has been my involvement in all these clubs and organizations," said Bates.  "Colleges like to see that you are an all-around good person, not that you just get good grades.  I think taking on leadership roles and participating in community service is very important.  I didn't just do it for my college applications, however.  I am preparing myself for the rest of my life in the medical field."
