2 Teens Injured In Crash Near Troy/Sterling Heights Border: Police

Police said an 18-year-old driver was speeding in a Mustang, before losing control and swerving into oncoming traffic, striking another car.

TROY, MI — Two teen drivers were injured in a Monday night crash near the Troy/Sterling Heights border, according to police.

Police said an 18-year-old was speeding in a white Ford Mustang south on Dequindre Avenue at 9:30 p.m. when the driver lost control of the car and hit a black Cadillac near Maple Road.

The 18-year-old Warren resident who was speeding in the car was taken to a nearby hospital with serious life-threatening injuries, police said.

The 18-year-old Sterling Heights resident, who was driving the Cadillac suffered minor injuries in the crash and was treated at the scene, police said.

Investigators determined the Mustang's driver was speeding south on Dequindre Avenue where the car struck a curb. The driver then lost control of the Mustang and swerved into the northbound lanes and the Cadillac, police said.

Investigators determined neither driver was wearing their seatbelt.

Officials shut down the road in both directions for roughly three hours. The road has since reopened.
