David Harrell Announces for District 20 Commissioner Seat

The Troy Republican said he will focus on improving roads, sewer infrastructure.

ROYAL OAK, MI – David Harrell , a Troy businessman, has announced he will seek the Republican nomination for Oakland County Commissioner in District 20. The district includes portions of the cities of Troy and Royal Oak as well as all of the cities of Madison Heights and Pleasant Ridge.

“I am not a politician. Like most people, I am used to writing checks to the government — not being on the receiving end,” Harrell said in a statement. “As a businessman, I know how hard people work for every dollar earned. Our government should respect that work and let people keep more of what they earn.”

He said he will be an “aggressive, effective voice” to improve infrastructure in Oakland County.

“Our roads are literally falling apart and our houses are being flooded by overflowing sewers,” he said. “At the same time our taxes and sewer bills keep going up. I will work tirelessly to fix these problems and ensure every tax dollar is spent wisely.”

Harrell is an automotive engineer and the owner of Genesis Drug Test Services located in Troy. The business assists companies in implementing drug-free workplace policies and works within the community with products and educational programs to keep children drug-free.

In addition to his business, Harrell has been in automotive engineering and program management for 24 years. He serves as a deacon at Grace Baptist Church and is known for his longstanding volunteer efforts on behalf of the Republican Party. He has served as secretary of the Troy-Clawson Republican Forum, as a long time elected GOP precinct delegate and as a member of the Oakland County Republican Party Executive Committee.

Harrell is a 47-year resident of Oakland County, including 27 years in the Troy-Royal Oak area.He and his wife Barbara have been married for 28 years.

The Primary Election will be held Aug. 2.
