Engineering Society of Detroit Honors Troy Businesses, Individuals

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. —On Thursday, June 27, 2013 The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) will recognize and applaud the achievements and contributions of 23 professionals in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math, as well as celebrate the best construction and design projects in Michigan. Among the winners are three Troy-based businesses, as follows:

            In the Distinguished Service category is Katherine M. Banicki, FESD, President & CEO, Testing Engineers and Consultants. She is one of four individuals to get this award.

Banicki began her career 47 years ago when she and her husband John Banicki, founded the company located at 1343 Rochester Road in Troy. As the leader of a woman owned firm, she has faced many challenges and has emerged strong and well respected by her peers.  A firm believer in community service, she is involved in numerous youth, civic, religious and professional organizations.

She has received numerous awards and honors for her role as a community and industry leader.  Among her many accomplishments, is being a long-time member of The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) and its Board of Directors. She was inducted into the ESD College of Fellows in 2011, and is the first woman ever to be appointed to the Board of Directors of the Associated General Contractors of Michigan (AGC).

1-      Integrated Design Solutions, 1441 West Long Lake Road, Troy. The firm will be receiving an award for their design work on two of ESD’s Construction and Design award-winning projects, The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum and the Wells Hall Addition at Michigan State University.

2-      Peter Basso Associates, 5145 Livernois Road, Troy. The firm is being recognized for its design work on one of ESD’s Construction and Design award-winning project, The Eastern Michigan University Mark Jefferson Science Complex: HVAC Engineered System Design.
