📰 News we're reading

• Rochester Road project brings new detours, business frustrations to Troy (clickondetroit.com) — Drivers in Troy are facing a new headache as the west side of Long Lake Road at Rochester Road has closed for about three weeks, forcing multi‑mile detours and tempting some to cut through parking lots. The shutdown is part of a multi‑year Rochester Road widening that's also squeezing nearby businesses, though the city says new lanes should open by late 2026, with full restoration by summer 2027.

• 5 Michigan police agencies used Flock readers for immigration searches (detroitnews.com) — Troy residents should know that Troy police were among five Metro Detroit agencies whose officers used Flock license plate reader data for immigration-related searches, despite earlier assurances the technology wouldn't be used that way. Department officials say the searches were tied to a DEA criminal investigation and within policy, as state lawmakers and local communities debate stricter rules and even cancel Flock contracts over privacy concerns.

• Top-ranked Troy secures outright OAA Red title with win over Lake Orion (theoaklandpress.com) — Troy High's unbeaten Colts just clinched the OAA Red soccer title with a 3-0 win over Lake Orion, keeping their dominant season alive. The team now heads into district playoffs, where they'll face either Royal Oak or crosstown rival Troy Athens, with a potential matchup against Birmingham Seaholm looming. Expect packed stands and plenty of neighborhood bragging rights on the line.
