Forgotten Harvest Milk Drive Goal is 5,000 Gallons

Forgotten Harvest Partners with Prairie Farms, United Dairy Industry of Michigan and Busch's Fresh Food in drive to help families in need.

For every gallon of milk customers of Busch’s Fresh Food Market in Plymouth purchase from Aug. 10-16, the store and its partners, Prairie Farms and the United Dairy Industry of Michigan, will match the donation up to the goal of 5,000 gallons provided to those in need.

Busch’s Fresh Food Market is located at 15185 N. Sheldon Road. Cashiers at the store will be available to take the donations that will go to Forgotten Harvest.

“Milk is very nutritious, however it’s expensive, so those in need typically can’t afford it,” Kirk Mayes, CEO of Forgotten Harvest, said in a statement. “We appreciate the support of Busch’s Fresh Food Market, United Dairy Industry of Michigan and Prairie Farms, and with their help we can provide a healthy option to those that face hunger.”

A Michigan Milk Drive event will occur from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, with Prairie Farms’ milk truck and Forgotten Harvest’s truck both in front of the store to collect the week’s worth of donations. During the event, Busch’s will be selling hot dogs with all proceeds going to Forgotten Harvest. The market will also serve ice cream samples and give away balloons to children.

Forgotten Harvest, based in Oak Park, was formed in 1990 to fight hunger and waste.
