Not sure how you will be able to afford college for your child when the time comes? The Troy Chamber of Commerce will host a free Lunch & Learn event, open to the public, on Thursday, April 24, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at its office located at 2125 Butterfield.
At this program, you can drop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to find out about the options available in terms of saving for your child’s college education. You will learn everything you need to know, from the experts, about how to take advantage of the tax benefits of Michigan’s 529 college savings plans the Michigan Education Trust (MET) and the Michigan Education Savings Program.
“This program is designed to help you start saving now,” said Robin L. Lott, executive director of MET. “MET allows parents, grandparents, businesses and others to pre-purchase undergraduate tuition for a child residing in Michigan at any Michigan public university or college, including 28 public community colleges.”

Lott added that MET provides peace of mind for parents and the program is flexible, transferable, refundable and tax deductible.
“Saving for college is simple if you've got MET,” Lott said. “MET helps you save on college tuition by buying college credits at today's price, so you avoid rising tuition rates, which are expected to more than double over the next 10 years.”
