Macomb County Physician Guilty For Practicing Without a License
The man acted as a licensed urogynecology physician at a Grand Rapids clinic, according to the Michigan Attorney's General Office.
STERLING HEIGHTS, MI — A Sterling Heights man was convicted Wednesday for practicing as a doctor without a license, according to the Michigan Attorney's General Office.
Thamin Abed, 54, was convicted of the unauthorized practice of a health profession, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine. He will be sentenced on May 29 at 1:30 p.m.
Abed acted as a licensed urogynecology physician at a Grand Rapids clinic, according to the Michigan Attorney's General Office.

With authorization from the Board of Medicine, officials with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) began investigating the practices of Abed and filed an administrative complaint against him on May 17, 2022.
The investigation determined a departure from acceptable medical standards and Abed’s license to practice medicine was suspended by officials a few days later, according to the Michigan Attorney's General Office.

"Providing medical care to patients is serious business and the licensing framework in place helps ensure that care is appropriate and safe," Michigan Attorney General Nessel said. "Practicing medicine without a license, or while that license is suspended, is a criminal offense that the State will meet with appropriate enforcement to protect the public health."
