Man Arrested In Connection To Burglaries Across Oakland County: Police

Troy Police said the string of burglaries happened between Oct. 4 and Oct. 25.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A man was arrested in connection to a string of October burglaries across Oakland County, according to Troy Police.

James Chatman, 53, from Southfield, was charged with burglary. He was placed in jail with a $200,000 bond, police said.

Last Wednesday at 11:27 p.m., police said officers responded to a possible break-in at a building in the King’s Plaza shopping complex on Rochester Rd., North of E Long Lake Rd.

Officers found a damaged door handle on the back door of a store at 5100 Rochester Road and found the cash register door was open with no cash left inside, police said.

The owner of the store told officers roughly $120 of cash was missing, police said.

Chatman was arrested in connection to the burglary, police said. Police did not elaborate any other details in the arrest.

Police also believe Chatman was responsible for multiple other business burglaries, including in Royal Oak, Birmingham, Troy and other surrounding areas between Oct. 4 and Oct. 25, police said.

Detectives used surveillance video to identify Chatman as the suspected burglar, police said.
