Plans To Demolish Former Kmart Headquarters In Troy Moves Forward
Although plans to demolish to massive vacant structure on Big Beaver Road are moving forward, future redevelopment plans were still unclear.

TROY, MI — A demolition company submitted a proposal to take down the abandoned Kmart headquarters in Troy, according to the city.
Adamo Demolition plans to take down the massive vacant structure at 3100 W. Big Beaver Road. The contractor was expected to start demolition in September, and it's expected to take at least nine months to a year to complete.
The buildings owners, Forbes/Frankel Troy Ventures LLC., have not yet submitted redevelopment plans or a schedule, as the Troy planning department said Thursday it is waiting for the owner to submit a proposal.

"Demolition of this tired asset is the first step towards redevelopment of this prominent location," said Brent Savidant, Community Development Director. "It is important to stress there will be numerous opportunities for public input once a development application is submitted for this property," Savidant added.

The massive structure was built in 1972 and has sat vacant since 2006.
