Police Briefs: Underage Alcohol Sales, Parking Lot Fight, Stereo Scam, Cars Stolen

Following are highlights from recent Troy Police Department reports:
Clerks cited for selling alcohol to minors
Police cited teens and store clerks for alcohol violations Friday and Saturday while officers were conducting surveillance at , 2981 E. Big Beaver.
Officers said a 17-year old from Troy entered the store about 5:26 p.m. Friday and made a purchase before driving to in Troy with several other teens. Officers approached the teen, who fled the area after pushing away from an officer who was patting him down. Police said a tote bag left behind by the teen was found to contain alcoholic beverages.

The teen was later located and cited for alleged minor in possession of alcohol and obstructing an officer. The clerk at the store was also cited for selling alcohol to a minor.
Officers again set up surveillance Saturday and said they observed a 17-year-old from Royal Oak purchase beverages and leave in a vehicle. A subsequent traffic stop revealed the teen purchased alcoholic beverages, police said. The teen was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and the clerk was cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor.

has been cited about five times for similar violations in the past, Chief Garry Mayer said Monday night.
"From time to time, we get notices from the (state) Liquor Control Commission and we do investigations," Mayer said.
Man assaulted in restaurant parking lot
A man walking through the parking lot outside about 6:30 p.m. Sunday was tackled from behind after trying to break up an argument between two men, police reported. The victim said he noticed the men arguing near his vehicle and told them to take the their argument elsewhere when he was taken to the ground by an unknown third person, police said. The man received injuries to his elbow and hip, police said.
Vehicles stolen
A woman reported her 2001 Jeep stolen sometime between 5-9:55 a.m. Sunday while locked and parked in the 900 block of John R. Another woman reported her 2003 Dodge Intrepid stolen sometime between 7:30 p.m.-7:39 a.m. Sunday from the 1100 block of Pond Ridge.
Man buys box, finds surprise inside
A man told police he was walking through a parking lot Friday afternoon in the 200 block of John R when he was approached by two people who offered to sell him a stereo for $300. The man returned with the cash and bought the home stereo from the men, but later discovered there wasn't a stereo in the box.
