Recalled Thermostat May Be Behind Troy Medical Plaza Fire
The thermostat, which was destroyed in the fire, was similar to one recalled in 2014 by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

TROY, MI — A thermostat covered under a 2014 recall may be the cause of a fire at the Troy Medical Plaza Wednesday morning, Troy Fire Department officials said.
Firefighters were caused to the medical plaza, located at 1777 Axtell, around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday on a report of smoke coming from the second floor of the two-story building. Once inside, firefighters discovered smoke coming from the thermostat, The Oakland Press reported.
The fire was out and workers were able to return to the building shortly after the incident.

The thermostat was similar to the White-Rogers thermostat, which was recalled onApril 30, 2014, by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which listed it as a fire hazard.
The fire department encourages businesses and homeowners to look at their thermostats to ensure they're not covered by a recall. If it is, the device should be removed and replaced with a properly listed device by a qualified heating and cooling contractor.
