UPDATED: Troy Stabbing Death Suspect Held Without Bond
A neighbor of the woman whose body was discovered in a welfare check Monday was arrested Tuesday, police said.

TROY, MI – Charles Anthony Stephens, 53, of Troy, was arraigned in 52-4 District Court on a felony murder charge Wednesday in connection with the stabbing death of his neighbor, police said.
Magistrate Clement Waldmann denied bond, and Stephens is being held in the Oakland County Jail.

Stephens’ preliminary exam is scheduled for 10 a.m. on April 7 before Judge Maureen M. McGinnis.
Assisting the Troy Police Department in the investigation were the Oakland County Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT), including investigators from Auburn Hills Police Department, Birmingham Police Department, Bloomfield Township Police Department, Bloomfield Hills Public Safety, Clawson Police Department, Rochester Police Department, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office; and Oakland County (FBI) Gang & Violent Crimes Task Force.

Police in Troy said Wednesday that they have arrested a neighbor in connection with the stabbing death of a 37-year-old woman Tuesday at a Troy apartment complex on Golfview Street.

Police were called to conduct a welfare check at the residence in the Somerset Park Apartments about 5:15 p.m. Monday, according to a news release.
Her husband was out of the country on business at the time, according to WXYZ-TV.
The neighbor, a 53-year-old man, was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said in a news release. He had had multiple contacts with police, according to the release.
A warrant request will be submitted to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office within 48 hours, police said.
Troy Police Capt. Robert Redmond told The Oakland Press it appears the woman was stabbed after a break-in.
Redmond says the victim’s husband has been notified.
