Troy Colt Marching Band Kicks Off Fall Season: “Regenesis”
Troy Colt Marching band kicks off its fall season with Sneak Preview, and announces 2017 home football game schedule
The Troy Colt Marching Band returned from a week of band camp to present their Sneak Preview show to family and friends on Friday, August 18 at Troy High School.
The 227 members – the largest group in the school’s history – all worked together during their week at Camp Faholo in Grass Lake, MI. Brian Nutting, Director of Bands at Troy High School, thanked assistant director Jeff Krum, as well as instructional staff (alumni of the Troy High School Band program), and the many volunteer chaperones. “A week of poor sleep and cafeteria food produced great results!” Nutting joked, when the audience witnessed the impressive performance the band displayed at the preview.
The two drum majors and two assistant drum majors took the band through drills, which are part of the band’s daily routine and are the foundation for their disciplined appearance.

Band member danced to the calypso beat while playing the parade number “Jump in the Line” (“Shake, Shake, Shake, Sonora”). The 30-member color guard took center stage in pre-game number “Crazy in Love” by Beyoncé. The girls moved with precision and skill, a testament to their hours of practice.
This year’s half-time show, entitled “Regenesis," tells the story of all of our lives, explained Nutting, the show’s creator. It’s a story of birth (genesis) followed by degeneration, then hope restored, celebration,
and rebirth (regenesis). Music and the stunning visual spectacle unite to heighten the drama. There is a great variety of music, including classical numbers like excerpts from the “William Tell Overture” by Rossini, “Dies Irae” from Verdi’s Requiem, and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, as well as the popular numbers “Creep”, “Beautiful” (Christina Auilera), and “Things Can Only Get Better” (Howard Jones), with an extended feature for the drum line.

“This year we pushed the envelope and added new elements,” Nutting said. Parent volunteers constructed five platforms for band members to stand on as the drama unfolds. Decorative panels at the sideline conceal props and band members at various parts during the show. Other new elements, including a giant field flag and costume changes will be revealed at the first home game on August 31.
You can see the complete version of the band’s show in full costume at the Troy Varsity Football home games on August 31, September 8, September 22, and October 6 (Homecoming). The games begin at 7 pm at 4777
Northfield Parkway.
