Troy Sports Wrap: Colts go to Semifinals, Athens Falls in Soccer
Troy Athens finishes soccer season, Colts head to state semifinals, and Troy High runners finish fifth in cross country.
The Colts boys soccer team will play Grand Haven in the 2011 semifinals at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Holt, after a 2-1 overtime victory Saturday against Walled Lake Northern.
A win on Wednesday would send the sixth-ranked Colts to the finals for the first time since 2003.
Meanwhile, the Red Hawks soccer team finished its season Saturday with a 1-0 overtime loss to Warren De La Salle. Athens head coach Todd Heugh said he is proud of the team's performance on Saturday and the season overall.

"Their goal keeper played well and their back line played well, but we played well. I'm super proud of them," Heugh said following Saturday's game.
De La Salle, which is 9-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 15 nationally in the ESPN Fab 50 soccer rankings, scored the only goal of the game in the first overtime to take the regional championship.

"I thought that as the year went on, we continued to play good soccer, which is what I hoped," Heugh said. "We play in a tough conference and we beat a lot of ranked teams this year and went toe to toe with these guys. I'm proud of them."
Also Wednesday, Avondale faces off against in the state semi-final game at Avondale High School. The game starts at 7 p.m.
Troy Team, Troy's Yau Qualify for CC State Finals
The Troy and Troy Athens Cross Country teams competed in the same regional on Saturday at Hess-Hathaway Park in Waterford. The schools faced some very tough competition.
Athens didn't qualify any boys and girls for the state finals. The Troy Colts fared a little bit better. Their girls qualified as a team and William Yau qualified as an individual by finishing third in the boys race.
Yau was the only boy to qualify for Troy. He finished the 5,000-meter run in third place (16:12.4). The girls had four girls finish in the top 20. Katherine Shaheen led the group with a ninth-place finish (19:55.6).
Troy runners will compete on Saturday at the Michigan International Speedway in the state finals.
