1. Replacing Rite Aid, razing IHOP and a $215M project: 8 Grand Rapids-area projects from May (mlive.com) — Walker’s Meadow Springs condo project is temporarily on hold after the city’s Planning Commission tabled site plan approval for its fourth and final phase over drainage concerns in earlier phases. The decision, which affects 33 planned units on Kinney Avenue NW, could be revisited at the June 17 meeting. Several other Grand Rapids-area projects also advanced, but only Walker’s remains paused.
   

2. Motorcyclist seriously hurt after canoe falls off van in Kent County (wwmt.com) — A motorcyclist was seriously hurt Tuesday afternoon when a canoe fell from a southbound van and was struck by multiple vehicles in Walker, near Wilson Avenue SW and Hall Street SW. Hall Street was closed for about two hours, and traffic slowed on Wilson Avenue while police investigated. Walker Police are asking anyone who saw the crash to call their tip line.
   

3. Beloved GVSU Surplus Store Shuts Down After 13 Years (wgrd.com) — GVSU’s Surplus Store at 429 Standale Plaza NW in Walker is permanently closing June 30 after 13 years of offering discounted university furniture, electronics, and more. The university is pausing surplus pickups while it develops a new disposal system, leaving questions about how future surplus items will be handled.
   

4. 30 firefighters put out fire at Plainfield Township recycling center (woodtv.com) — Walker firefighters were among about 30 responders who helped knock down a large debris fire Tuesday evening at the North Kent Recycling and Waste Center in Plainfield Township. Crews had the flames under control in about an hour, and thanks to sprinklers and quick work, the building only suffered minimal damage while the cause remains under investigation.
