📰 News we're reading
• These are the 75 Michigan sites Fifth Third is closing after Comerica deal (detroitnews.com) — Banking options in Wayne County will shift as Fifth Third closes 75 overlapping branches statewide after absorbing Comerica, leaving 227 combined locations in Michigan and 116 across the four core metro counties. Closures will wrap up by Labor Day, with some employees reassigned and Comerica customers fully converted to Fifth Third’s system. Wayne-area customers may see branch consolidations but more shared ATM and service coverage overall.

• Michigan reports first West Nile virus detection of 2026 (mlive.com) — Wayne County was among several Michigan counties with human West Nile virus cases last year, and the first positive mosquitoes of 2026 have now been detected in Kent County. Health officials say most infections cause mild or no symptoms but can occasionally lead to serious illness, especially in older adults. They’re urging residents statewide to use repellent, cover up, and remove standing water to reduce risk.

• Sharon Hartsell (wlen.com) — Wayne residents are remembering Sharon Hartsell, who was born in Wayne in 1940 and passed away May 9 at age 86. Her life took her from local roots to careers with General Motors and medical offices, active service in church and community, and travels around the world before her family plans a summer celebration of life in Cadillac.
