8th Annual Brooksie Way Race Hits Oakland U Sunday

The event honoring the late son of longtime Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson kicks off at 8 a.m.

Ready. Set. Go.

For the eighth year in a row runners from across the country, and even across the border, will gather at the Oakland University Campus Sunday, Sept. 27 for the ever-growing Brooksie Way Fundraiser Race.

The event was created in memory of longtime Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson’s son, Brooks Stuart Patterson, who was tragically killed in a snowmobile crash in 2007.

“This is one of the premiere races in the Midwest,” Patterson said in a press release.

The race includes both a 5K and 10K run, in addition to a kid’s race. Last year, it drew more than 6,000 participants from 20 different states and 4 countries, according to The Oakland Press. Over the past seven years, over $150,000 in proceeds has been donated to local health and fitness non-profits.
