Dr. Lowell Schmeltz of West Bloomfield named DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital Physician of the Year

According to the Greater West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, Lowell Schmeltz, M.D. has been named DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital’s 2011 Physician of the Year. The honor is awarded annually to a leader recognized for ongoing utilization of the continuous improvement philosophy as well as unsurpassed personal and professional commitment to the hospital and the community it serves.

Dr. Schmeltz, a resident of West Bloomfield, has been a member of the Huron Valley-Sinai medical staff since 2006 and he also serves as the hospital’s Chief of Endocrinology. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University.

Dr. Schmeltz completed his Endocrinology fellowship at Northwestern where he pursued clinical research in diabetes management and has authored multiple publications on intensive diabetes management, lipids, obesity, and the metabolic syndrome.
