Oakland County Man Disassembled Gun, Buried Pieces After Shooting: Police

WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI — A 21-year-old man could spend the rest of his life in prison after shooting a person at an Oakland County gas station last week, according to prosecutors.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to prosecutors.

Jeremiah Clemons, of West Bloomfield, was charged with assault with intent to murder, weapons felony firearm and weapons carrying concealed.

He was placed in jail with a $250,000 bond.

The shooting happened at 9:20 p.m. last Sunday at the Exxon gas station at 20705 Southfield and 8 Mile roads in Southfield, according to police.

Police said Clemons and a 47-year-old man got into an argument inside the gas station. The argument continued outside the store where police said Clemons fired shots at the man, striking him twice.

Clemons then fled the area in a vehicle but was arrested the next day without incident, according to police.

Officers searched Clemons' home and found gun magazines and other evidence linking him to the shooting, according to police.

Investigators also determined Clemons disassembled the firearm used in the shooting and buried its components. They found the gun parts wrapped in a white plastic grocery bag at a Detroit home located on Dresden near Seven Mile and Hoover, according to police.

"When you look at individuals carrying guns illegally, on top of that, wearing a mask on top of that, quickly disassembling and burying, parts, I could assure you, this is not the first time something has happened," Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said. "But maybe the first time it came to law enforcement's attention to who he is."
