“I am so excited to open Yoga Shelter Midtown bringing Detroiters a wonderful retreat and the tremendous support of the Yoga Shelter community,” says Ruth. "Detroit has been my home, my community and my passion for the past ten years. I have cried, laughed, learned, listened and I'm sure even yelled about it,” she chuckles. “I think, like all community workers and residents, I sometimes needed a time out and a place to check-in. For me that was always the Yoga Shelter; a place where, no matter what I brought, there was always a warm welcome – even if it was a sweaty hug!”

“The community feel of Yoga Shelter and its emphasis on yoga for every body mirrors the inclusiveness, connectivity, and determination that is resonating in Detroit today,” says Yoga Shelter Chairman Hannan Lis. He says, “It has long been a dream to bring the Yoga Shelter community to the heart of Detroit.”

Yoga is a time-tested practice that promotes wellness, strength and flexibility, as well as, clarity and focus,” explains Ruth. “With rising stress-related illnesses, more work places are encouraging, and often subsidizing yoga as a means to promote wellness. We hope to provide this to our community,” she says.
