This musical portrait of Frida Kahlo coincides with the Diego and Kahlo in Detroit exhibit at the Detroit Institute of Arts and celebrates Kahlo’s vivacious spirit, talent, sexuality and fragility. Badly injured in a traffic accident at 18, Kahlo’s pain and suffering are reflected in her art. Kahlo’s marriages to Diego Rivera are also a source of inspiration and heartache. The opera is a co-production of Michigan Opera Theater and the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts in conjunction with the Berman Center for the Performing Arts and DIA.
