Bloomfield Wellness - Free Scoliosis Screenings and Backpack Fittings for students K-12

In addition to his practice, Dr. David Budaj of Bloomfield Wellness Clinic also donates his time in the community with free lectures, i.e. WorkSafe Program (for approved businesses), Lunch-and-Learn talks, Dinner Talks, Lectures, and Employee/Teacher Appreciation (typically this would involved a massage therapist coming into a business and administering 10-15 min seated chair massage). Bloomfield Wellness is a charter member of the non-profit Doctors for Health and Wellness Foundation. He is required to donate 60+ hours a year to retain membership, and this is how those hours are met while spreading health and wellness consciousness into the community.

People of all ages can have scoliosis. The most common type is idiopathic scoliosis in children age 10 to 12 and in their early teens. This is the time when children are growing fast. Girls are more likely than boys to have this type of scoliosis. Scoliosis can run in families. A child who has a parent, brother, or sister with idiopathic scoliosis should have regular checkups by the family doctor. Researchers are looking for the causes of idiopathic scoliosis. They have studied genetics, growth, and changes in the spine, muscles, and nerves. They are studying how different treatments can help to straighten the spine or keep curves from getting worse. They are also studying the long-term effects of surgery and of untreated scoliosis.
