Act in Haste, Regret in Leisure

Are you impulsive?

Two weeks ago I was strolling through the Laurel Park Mall and noticed a kiosk in the mall with zookeeper-looking demonstrator tossing around a darling little pocket animal called a Sugar Glider. Being the pet lover that I am, I so wanted one. I imagined having this flying monkey/squirrel thing gliding around the house and spending it's day in my pocket like the hot guy in the khaki pants doing the demo had explained. My only worry was that the little cutie would smell like the ferret that my oldest son use to have (that his dog ate). I asked the zookeeper guy if I could just cuddle it for a minute to see if it had any odor. Luckily it had no smell.

I took the brochure on the Sugar Glider and decided to come back and buy one the next day. My husband and I had lovely dinner and saw a movies and went to sleep for the night. I woke up the next morning and my face swollen up like a monster. Seriously, a monster. I went right to the dermatologist who gasped at my face (it's not a good sign when a doctor is alarmed). He gave me steroid shots, creams and pills and suggested that perhaps I don't kiss anymore marsupials at the mall. It's now two weeks later and my face is still red and blotchy. I am sure I contracted some Indonesian disease brought over by the adorable Sugar Glider.

The moral of the story is that I am rather impulsive. As I mentioned in my book, Normal Life, if I got a do-over, a life rewind … I would be less impulsive. Perhaps that is an understatement. In every area of my life, I should probably give things some thought. It's all about self improvement and I learn something new each day. I would love to write a little bit more about my experience but my eyes are swollen shut. Damn Sugar Glider.
