Indoor Biking - Just Not The Same
Biking indoors means a lot less change in scenery. And my brain keeps telling me to stop.
I've switched to biking indoors. Monday and Tuesday morning, I got on an exercise bike at and set it for an hour. Just not the same as biking outside. I mean you just aren't going anywhere.
There are other differences too:
- For one, I'm able to go much faster indoors. A part of me likes that. Both days I biked a tad over 20 miles in an hour. Best I can do outdoors with hills, the wind and traffic slow downs is maybe 14 miles in an hour. For both of these rides I had the bikes on a random program, which basically simulated a bunch of hills of various heights. I had the "level" set at 10 out of 25. Next week I'll up it because I'm not sure I'm getting enough resistance.
- Like I said: you aren't going anywhere! You can watch TV, and that helps a little. I liked watching ESPN SportsCenter Tuesday morning because there was a lot of coverage of the Lions' big victory over Chicago the night before.
- Biking through commercials is a complete waste of time.
- Drinking water is a lot easier when your water bottle is directly in front of you and you don't have to reach down to get it in and out of a holder.
The part I like the least though is, through these two rides, that I'm fighting myself to keep going. Tuesday I was saying to myself, "Stop at 30 minutes." I really had to force myself to make it to an hour. I used to run up to 10 miles on a treadmill but that was a long time ago and I don't remember if I was fighting with myself on that or not.

Any suggestions on how to make this more tolerable would be greatly appreciated!
