Spinning at Sea While Escaping Hurricane Irene Part I

Is it possible to do a spinning class while outrunning a hurricane? Part I of this blog sets the stage.

We just got back from a 5 day cruise on Carnival; we went with my in-laws, sister in-law and brother in-law and their daughter.  When the trip was booked in May for late August, my wife and sister in-law chose a cruise out of New York City.  After all, who wants to risk booking a cruise out of Florida during hurricane season?

Little did we know that Hurricane Irene had other plans.

Our cruise was supposed to leave about 6 pm on Saturday.  Carnival moved it up to 3 pm to beat Irene, who was due to hit New York City the next morning.

Let's just say we put up with 24 rough hours at sea.  Crew members said it was the roughest seas they'd ever experienced.  I was afraid I was going to roll out of bed Saturday night.

So what did I do the next morning?  I did my first spinning class.  And yes, we were still outrunning the hurricane.

I'll blog more about this in the future, as the buzzer on the last load of laundry from the trip just went.

How was it?  I think it was the hardest thing atheltically I've ever done.  Of course I did a second one on the last full day of the cruise.

Stay tuned.
