Chanticleer is right in tone at The Berman

Chanticleer, which will grace The Berman stage October 9th at 7:30p.m., and will feature an “orchestra of voices,” while celebrating its 35th anniversary. Named Ensemble of the Year by Musical America in 2008, the Grammy® Award-winning ensemble Chanticleer is praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for its “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity.” Based in San Francisco, Chanticleer is known for the seamless blend of its 12 male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz.

Chanticleer is named after the clear-singing rooster in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and frequently called “an orchestra of voices”.  All 12 singers are full-time personnel on annual salaries, which is extremely rare for a vocal ensemble. A prolific recording ensemble, Chanticleer has made more than a dozen albums.
