A hat day fundraiser to support the Save the Children charitable organization, which has established ties in Japan and is already there providing disaster relief, will take place at Lone Pine Elementary Monday. Students can make a donation via Lone Pine to Save the Children and wear a hat to show their support.
"As always, we will encourage students to make a personal effort to earn the money they donate — through simple chores around the house or other means they determine in cooperation with parents. Although our suggested donation will be $5, any donation is welcome and any donation will earn students the hat privilege," said Principal Mary Hillberry in an email sent to parents Tuesday.
Students may bring cash or checks payable to BHS, and 100% of this fundraising effort will in turn be sent to Save the Children. Additional donations from parents are always welcome.

The second fundraiser is being sponsored by the Japanese families of Lone Pine. They will be accepting donations Wednesday and Friday in the book fair area of the media center and will be on hand Wednesday evening during parent teacher conferences. These donations will go directly to the Consulate General of Japan, according to Hillberry.
