WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – Henry’s Market on Main, the farmers market inside Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, will reopen for the season on Wednesday, June 1, giving guests, employees and the community the opportunity to purchase fresh, locally grown produce and products like pesto and salsa that are made in Henry’s, the hospital’s café.

The market will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. every Wednesday through November.

Besides access to produce, baked goods, herbs, honey, flowers and other products, cooking demonstrations using ingredients grown in the hospital’s organic greenhouse will be featured at mid-day.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, people who eat more fruits and vegetables as part of a healthy diet are likely to have a reduced risk of chronic diseases, including stroke, Type 2 diabetes, and some cancers. These foods are also high in fiber, which can help lower cholesterol, regulate blood sugar, and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Health advantages also come from dark pigments in produce, which hold potential disease-fighting benefits and may protect the brain as it ages.
