Kids Flip over Sports Club Open House

More than 100 kids and parents attended an open house Tuesday evening at the Sports Club of West Bloomfield.

More than 100 energetic children and parents attended an open house Tuesday evening at the to check out the tennis and gymnastics programs and consider signing up for classes.

Dean Smarjesse, director of gymnastics programs at the club and a coach for the boys and girls competitive teams, said he was thrilled with the turnout for the gymnastics portion of the open house. 

"There were about 50 signups for classes," Smarjesse said, adding that those who signed up for classes on Tuesday received a 20 percent discount.

The boys and girls gymnastics team members and program coaches were on hand, and the gymnasts even performed a bit for the parents and open house attendees. 

Racquel Kinsky, 10, was one of the girls who came to the open house and left having signed up for a class. "She was taking classes a year ago, and now we decided to do it again," said her mother, Natasha Kinsky of West Bloomfield.

Riley Kallen, 3, was having a great time doing somersaults and jumping on the equipment on Tuesday. She seemed right at home. "She loves this place," said her mom, Jessica Kallen of West Bloomfield.

Kallen said she signed up to be a member of the club so she could work out while Riley takes classes. "But it's too hard to resist watching her instead," she said.
