Lakers Boys Cross Country Wins Second Place in OAA White

The West Bloomfield High School boys team did well at the final Oakland Activities Association White Division Jamboree event of the season Friday.

The boys cross country team won sole possession of second place in the Oakland Activities Association White Division Friday at Oakland University in Rochester, while junior Erin Finn set a course record.

Finn finished with a time of 17 minutes, 34.1 seconds, to take first place and achieve all-league honors in the third division Jamboree event of the season. Junior Megan Eiswerth also achieved all-league honors with a 14th-place finish and a time of 20:41.9.

Meanwhile, the boys team won second place over Lahser, whom they were tied with going into Friday, with a second-place finish Friday. The Lakers finished with 63 points to Lahser's 71 points on the strength of four boys who finished with all-league honors: junior Bjorn Kempf (third, with a time of 16:55.6), senior Ben Griessmann (fifth — 17:05.5), senior Luke Bersche (eighth — 17:15.1), and sophomore Branden Burton (10th — 17:21.5).

Head coach Nate Belill said that the girls' team largely finished with personal bests, but finished sixth out of six overall.

The Lakers will compete next at the state Division 1 regional finals, on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Hess Hathaway Park in Waterford.
