Local Student Earns National DECA Honor
West Bloomfield, Michigan- March 16, 2019
Zachary Crawford a senior at West Bloomfield High School, in West Bloomfield, Michigan, is the recipient of the 2019 DECA Emerging Leader Honor Award. This award recognizes students studying marketing, finance, hospitality and management for being an academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leader through participation in DECA. The award recipient must be a DECA member in his/her senior year of high school with a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better for each of the high school semesters. The DECA chapter advisors at West Bloomfield High School are Julie Zalla, Jacqueline Evola, Laura Wowk and Lisa Sallen. Zachary Crawford is the son of Brett and Suzanne Crawford of Orchard Lake, Michigan.

Zachary currently serves as President of the West Bloomfield High School DECA Board leading over 225 student members. This is Zachary's third year in DECA. Zachary is a three-time State Finalist in three different categories -- Public Relations Project, Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research and Community Service Project.In 2017, Zachary and his teammates earned 1st place in the world in the DECA Public Relations Project. Their 30 page manual was published by National DECA.
DECA is a career and technical student organization composed of more than 210,000 students who are interested in careers in marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality or management. DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition. DECA student members leverage their DECA experience to become academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders.
